Solution: Implementing modules for detailed accounting and analysis of energy resource and process fluid consumption throughout the entire technological chain, down to specific installations and equipment units, as well as modules for energy and factor analysis, enabled the company to identify both obvious and hidden causes of increased consumption. This approach allowed for better forecasting and planning of resource consumption.

Energy Resources Under Control: Steel Mill Embarks on a “Green” Path

Challenge: A steel mill faced the challenge of establishing comprehensive control over the consumption of both energy resources and process fluids. The company had long struggled with consistent and unpredictable overconsumption of these resources, along with difficulties in planning procurement and deliveries. These issues negatively impacted production rhythm and the fulfillment of production plans.

Result: Through more detailed accounting and initial findings regarding the causes of increased consumption, the company achieved a 1.6% reduction in energy resource consumption and a 2.7% reduction in process fluid consumption. The next step is to integrate forecasting and planning functions for energy resources and process fluids, taking into account identified factors driving consumption growth and implementing corrective measures. Preliminary estimates suggest this could lead to even greater reductions in energy resource consumption (up to 2.5%) and process fluid consumption (4% to 6%), while mitigating risks of production plan disruptions due to resource shortages.
